It was an awesome day to do a float/wade trip on the South Holston Tailwater. We started the morning nymphing some soft seams and picking up some nice browns and one lonely bow. All the bites in the morning came on the swing or lift at the end of the drift. The BWO’s started popping off as we were eating a nice streamside lunch and the fish started feeding heavily as we put things away from lunch. It didn’t take long to get hooked up on a beautiful bulldogging brown, he fought hard but we got him to the net. Then for the next two and a half hours it was browns only on BWO dries. As the clouds rolled in in the late afternoon we switched to streamers, had some monster trout chase them got a few to bite but most would just give up and swim off, just wasn’t going to be a good streamer evening today.
It was an excellent day and looking forward to more trips in the coming weeks chasing those beautiful wild South Holston brown trout.

I really enjoyed my weekend in Raleigh, North Carolina at “The Fly Fishing Show”. It was fun to be in the TFO booth with Bob Clouser. Many of you came by to see me and talk fishing, it was great to see all of you. This was one of the best shows I have been to in several years and look forward to going back next year.
After getting home late Sunday, I had surgery on my right hand and everything went well. It looks like the recover time will be short and I should be back on the water by the 21st.
Don’t forget to come to the “Great Southern Fishing Show” in Atlanta, Georgia on February 19th and 20th. I will be in the TFO booth again. Those new BVK rods are the greatest casting rods. TFO has stepped up the program and have a good selling rod based on how many we saw going out of the fly shop booths at the Raleigh show.
The next weekend on February 27th I will be in attendance at the Ky Fly Fishing Show being put on by the Derby City Fly Fishers. I will have my own booth at this show, so stop by and watch me tie up some of my trout and smallie flies we use on our trips down the South Holston, Watauga, Holston Proper and Nolichucky. Looking forward to seeing you there.
